Korean Air offers service from Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco and Seattle to its Seoul Incheon hub. From Seoul, business class travelers will find easy connections to most Asian destinations. Korean Air has branded its business class product Prestige Class. At the turn of the 21st century, Korean Air opted to take the “high road” as it attempted to redefine and rebrand its international business class product. For most of the 1990’s, Korean Air distributed its premium class product by offering extreme business class discounts in order to generate revenue on price only. At the time, the most common form of business class discounts were based on paying the full economy fare but receiving a confirmed business class seat. While the pricing was attractive, the in-flight amenities lacked the same creature comforts offered by rivals Cathay Pacific and Singapore Airlines. Korean Air offers its revamped business class product on most flights between North America and Asia. The best opportunities for business class discounts are available for travelers departing from Korean Air gateways in New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. As Korean Air competes more heavily with other carriers offering business class discounts from these cities, there can be greater availability of promotional fares, deals, and offers from these markets. In contrast, business class discounts from the Korean Air gateway in Atlanta are generally negligible because of the absence of competition offering direct flights to Asia from this gateway. |
